Enter a world of fantasy and monsters! That's what we did when our family was asked to review "Mathamagica". All we knew was that it was a new computer software title designed to make learning math fun. It definitely delivered. "Mathamagica" focuses on a very cute character who is sucked into many fantasy worlds. He (or she) must answer math questions in order to get clues. Once five clues are found, the player gets to guess what is in the surprise box. On the surface, this programs seems simple. It is, however, packed full of options for parents and students to control. Choices include: level of difficulty, operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), as well as the availability of a tutorial. A report card is even offered to help track mathematical strengths and weaknesses. The animation is not that of "Disney" or "Pixar", but it doesn't need to be. It achieves its goals of providing fun interactive math practice for 7 to 11 year olds. Our family thoroughly enjoyed using this software to reinforce and review math concepts we have covered.
